Artist Statement

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to read a little about me. I’m a lifelong artist starting from my earliest memories. In the picture above I’m painting with water on the side of my house blissfully. I think I was about three years old. Art was always something that came naturally and brought me joy. I have never been able to go for long without drawing or painting something!

The natural world is a huge inspiration for me but my biggest inspiration has been my daughter, Bella. She is the most amazing and beautiful blessing in my life and I am so very thankful for her.  Not only has she brought me so much love and joy but somehow ever since she came to be my mind has been flooded with ideas. Right now I’m focusing on individual watercolor butterflies and moths. During my pregnancy I rescued a wooly caterpillar from a river. When I looked up what kind of moth it would be I found it was the Isabella Tiger moth, the name I was thinking for Bella. The day I found out she was a girl a Monarch butterfly I rescued the night before with a hurt wing managed to fly. Today, Bella, her dad and I are always finding butterflies together. When the milkweed seeds start to pop open in the fall we release them in the air together. I have a great love and spiritual connection to them made stronger by my daughter’s connection to them. I am excited to continue to honor them more and more.

The medium I have chosen, way back even starting from that picture, is watercolor. As I love to find myself in the water in life, I love to create with it. Like the rain or waves watercolor has an amazing way of changing shape freely. Less water makes the color deep and more water makes the color thin. I can lose track of time peacefully letting the colors build as well as discovering images that appear within. I love to have moments of detail where I keep the watercolor very controlled and other times let the water lead the way. My journey with Art has been a great adventure and has been a tool of self discovery and healing. For the past decade I have tried to use art to bring positivity into this world. With my husband we’ve completed murals, rescued animals and traveled around the world sharing our art in the hopes of bringing inspiration and peace to others. I’m also a nurse. I’ve been a nurse since 2013 and I’ve worked with all ages. If you have a family member who you feel would benefit from some art time/art therapy please contact me. My husband also teaches autistic adults at the Patriots Place gallery in Foxboro, MA every Friday and would love to offer more classes individually so please contact us.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am excited to bring all my imagined projects to life and can’t wait to share more. Please keep checking back and if you have any questions please email me: artoferinsarah@gmail.com
